Hello, Everyone!
I have invited back to my blog my dear friends, Cary Morgan Frates and Deborah O'Neill Cordes, who write as Morgan O'Neill.
They have dropped in to share a few more tidbits about the hero of The Thornless Rose, an Elizabethan Time Travel Novel, Jonathan Brandon.
I personally love this reviewer's description of Jonathan:
"Jonathan Brandon is a yummy cross of Cary Grant/Ronald Coleman/Viggo Mortensen/Tom Hiddleston, just gorgeous and dashing and sexy and brave, and a little mischievous too. What a man!" -- FLW
The Thornless Rose will be ONLY 99 cents ~ August 3-16 from Entangled/Macmillan.

Deborah and Cary, my blog space is all yours. I can't wait to be hear more about this intriguing hero.
Cary Morgan Frates and Deborah O'Neill Cordes ...
Writing teams sometimes bump heads and hearts—after all,
we're two different people—but when it came to Jonathan Brandon we were both on
the same page. We wholeheartedly agree with this reviewer's take on our good
doctor:
"I loved this hero, Brandon. He was down to earth, simple, yet
strong when needed, and I found that so appealing."—Amazon reviewer Book

We gave you some hints about Jonathan in a previous post on
Nancy's blog:
We got such a great response with readers wanting to know
more, we decided another peek behind the curtain is in order.
1. Before Jonathan time traveled, he was a fan of the
cinema. He was often told he resembled the film star Cary Grant, which pleased
him because Grant was his favorite actor. He especially liked "My Favorite
Wife," "Destination Tokyo," and "The Philadelphia
Story." He saw "None but the Lonely Heart" just prior to time
traveling from 1945 back to 1559. Will Jonathan find the same kind of enjoyment
by going to the Elizabethan theater? The answer is we don't know for sure,
because it hasn't been written yet. :)
2. Having been born in London in 1911, Jonathan remembers
the wonders of ice cream desserts prior to the rationing and deprivations of
World War I and World War II. He found an alternative in Spotted Dick, a
British dessert made from shredded suet, brown sugar, treacle custard, and
currents. As Americans we will make no further comment about Brandon's choice,
except to say that Deb loves the name and the wonderful flavor of it (Tasted it
in London! Scrumptious!), and Cary has yet to indulge. P.S. Cary says suet—gak!
If she gets the chance she'll give it a try because the name is just too good
to ignore. ;)
3. Begun by Time, our prequel to The Thornless Rose, tells
the story of Jonathan and his fiancée Catherine Hastings before he vanishes
into the past. It also lets the reader know what happens to Catherine
afterward, including how she meets Arthur Howard. During WWII, when Jonathan is
a RAF flight surgeon at a base in southern England, Arthur accompanies King
George VI as he visits with the wounded soldiers there. Completely unaware,
Jonathan and Arthur are in the same room for several minutes as the king greets
the troops. Little do they know they will both play pivotal roles in
Catherine's life. We are planning to work this scene into our sequel Ever Crave
the Rose. In the meantime, readers can learn more about Jonathan, Catherine,
Arthur, and our other characters in our Elizabethan time travel series, The
Thornless Rose and Begun by Time.
Thanks Nancy for hosting us on your blog. Happy reading to
one and all!

It is always a pleasure to have you here. AND ...you left me with more questions! LOL! I can't wait to dig into the rest of this amazing series. Now for the good stuff:
Where to find their books!
Begun by Time, The Prequel to The Thornless Rose
In 1945, a man disappeared into thin air...
In the final days of World War II, Catherine Hastings meets
the man she wants to marry. Flight surgeon Jonathan Brandon isn't just
handsome—he's everything Catherine could hope for in her betrothed. But her
dream of a happily ever after is shattered when Jonnie disappears shortly
before their wedding...leaving Catherine bereft, broken-hearted, and with a
lifetime of unanswered questions.
Arthur Howard is smitten with the lovely Catherine the
moment he sees her. He's certain he's found the woman he wants to marry. Yet
behind Catherine's sparkling green eyes is a haunted look—the look of a woman
who has known loss. But can he love a woman who still grieves the loss of her
fiancé? Now Arthur wants answers about the man Catherine intended to marry.
But the truth about Jonnie's disappearance is far stranger than
fiction...

ReplyDeleteHave to admit I loved another peek behind the scenes at the life of the gorgeous Jonathon Brandon. Spotted Dick is still a terrible name for a dessert, though! Great post ladies and am just loving this series
ReplyDeleteJoanna, thank you for stopping by! No one knows how the name Spotted Dick came into use. Here's an interesting article of the possible origin:
